Five (5) Most Popular Fishing Spots in Taman Negara

For fishing enthusiasts, one of their preferred destinations is the rivers in Taman Negara Pahang. There are many rivers and enticing fishing spots in Taman Negara. Here, I’ll list the top 5 popular fishing spots that attract avid anglers and the local villagers in Taman Negara.

Lubuk Kelembai (Pool)
This pool is located approximately a 15-minute boat ride from the Kuala Tahan jetty. It is renowned for being one of the deepest pools in the Taman Negara river, believed to host mega-sized fish such as Wallago attu, Catfish, Giant Featherback, Hampala Barb, and Bagrid catfish. Local fishermen in Taman Negara have also mentioned that various other fish species can be caught in Kelembai Pool, including Leaf Fish, Bagrid Catfish, Featherback, Hampala Barb, and Giant Freshwater Prawns.

Lubuk Jeram Panjang @ Trenggan (Pool)
Situated about a 30-minute boat ride from the Kuala Tahan jetty, this pool is reached after navigating through a long stretch of rocky rapids. Once you reach the end of the long rapids, the pool extends for about 2 km upstream. While not very deep, this area is home to various fish species. It is likely a resting place for fish that are tired after navigating the strong currents of the long rapids upstream.

Lubuk Katak (Pool)
Located about a 1-hour boat ride from the Kuala Tahan jetty, this area with expansive sandy beaches is popular for overnight camping. The large sandy area makes camping attractive, alongside the spacious pool area. It is a hotspot for catching Patin Buah or Gourami. Using palm fruit or juvenile fish as bait, anglers have a good chance of catching these fish. However, it’s crucial to secure your fishing line to avoid disappointment if a fish snags it.

Lubuk Lompat (Pool)
This pool is also a camping and fishing spot, not far from Katak Pool, about a 15-minute boat ride upstream. The extensive sandy area is suitable for both large and small tents. It is a preferred location for Belida fish enthusiasts because this species is abundant in this poo (Lubuk)

Lubuk Yong (Pool)
Accessible by a 15-minute boat ride from the Kuala Tahan jetty, Yong Pool is suitable for fishing from a wooden boat. This moderately sized pool is located near the Orang Asli Yong village. It is a favorite spot for anglers and Taman Negara villagers to catch giant freshwater prawns and catfish.
